Both postgraduate programmes are offered to both qualified Malaysian and international students. The research programmes encompass various areas of pharmaceutical sciences, including medicinal chemistry, natural products chemistry, drug action, drug delivery, pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology and evidence-based pharmacotherapy related to clinical and pharmacy practice.

ENTRY REQUIREMENT

Master of Medical Science (MMedSc) by Research

  1. Programme

The Master of Medical Science (MMedSc) by research is a programme that consists of one hundred percent (100%) research leading to the submission of a dissertation.

  1. Admission Requirements
  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy with a CGPA of 3.0 and above or its equivalent, or
  2. Bachelor’s Degrees in the relevant sciences with a CGPA of 3.0 and above or its equivalent; or
  3. Bachelor’s Degrees in the relevant sciences with a CGPA less than 3.0 can be considered with stipulated criteria set by the Faculty and University; or
  4. An equivalent qualification approved by the Senate from time to time;

English requirement for international applicants:

A candidate who is not a Malaysian citizen and who possesses a degree or degrees from a university or an institution of higher education where the medium of instruction is not the English language for that degree or degrees must:

  1. Obtain band 6.0 in the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) (Academic); or
  2. A score of 60 for TOEFL iBT.

  1. Duration of Study

Minimum period of candidature: 2 semesters

Maximum period of candidature: 8 semesters

  1. Programme Structure and Module Registration
  1. This programme shall consist of one hundred percent (100%) research work leading to the submission of a dissertation which format shall be stipulated as in Part VII, University of Malaya Regulations (Master’s Degree) 2019.
  2. Candidates are required to enrol in the following modules during registration period:

OMX7001 Research Methodology
OMA7002 – Dissertation (every semester of candidature until the submission of Dissertation for Examination)

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the course, students are able to:

  1. determine research question or/and research hypothesis for related research
  2. critically analyze literature reviews based on their respective areas of research
  3. appraise principles underlying responsible conduct of research
  4. relate ethics and professionalism in conducting research based on relevant case studies.

Synopsis of Course Content

This course is designed to provide knowledge and skills   to   the   candidate   related   to   research and responsible conduct of research. The content   of   this   course   includes introduction to research methodologies, literature review, research design, research proposal writing, research ethics, data analysis, usage of research software and topics related to good research practices.

Assessment Weightage

Continuous assessment: 100%

  1. Candidature Requirements
  1. Fulfil the minimum candidature duration of 2 semesters
  2. Fulfil the University language requirement (Bahasa Malaysia) not later than the second (2nd) semester of candidature for international candidates
  3. Attend at least 3 credits of Research Methodology Course in first semester of candidature
  4. Present and Pass your research proposal at Proposal Defence in first semester of candidature
  5. Present and Pass your research progress at Candidature Defence not later than the second (2nd) semester of candidature

  1. Publication Requirement

Must fulfil at least one (1) paper in ISI (WoS) Journals for graduation
